Motocross racing and biking combines the agility of traditional bicycling with the speed of a motorcycle. Instead of racing on tracks, motocross riders use off road tracks. Judging the inconsistency of the terrain and going as fast as possible over it is part of the sport. There are a number of national and international competitions for amateur and professional motocross racers who take their bikes off-road, and several others for Motocross tricks and freestyle acrobatics. The acrobatic or Freestyle Motocross and Supercross events at the ESPN sponsored X-Games are among the most popular. Freestyle moto was first introduced to a worldwide audience in 1999, combining the death defying tricks of the BMX events with the high speeds of Motocross racing in one event where riders compete against each other to create the most impressive routine. Their colourful motocross gear they wear only adds to the occasion. Even more exhilarating than Freestyle is the Supercross event where Motocross racers go through an obstacle course racing one another side by side and taking huge jumps. |
