Helpful Tips For Taking Great Pictures With Any Camera

posted on 7 February 2012

There are many types of cameras nowadays, and almost all of them can take professional quality photos even if you're not a professional like a wedding photographer. Many dedicated digital cameras, as well as some cell phone cameras, have image stabilization which will help for minor shakes of the hand or even if you want to snap a shot going down the road (not recommended). There are even filters built in or easily available for your camera or cell phone, but what does all this mean and how do you use it? A tool is only as good as your ability to understand and use it. Some great things to ask yourself when taking a picture, before you take your picture: Have you set your camera's image quality high enough? Are you zooming in too far and sacrificing quality instead of moving your position? Is your lighting good for the picture, or would moving just a little bit reduce shadows or enhance your picture? Double checking your settings and your position before snapping away can dramatically improve your picture. Many cell phone cameras have default settings to take lower quality pictures so they can be sent or posted online quickly, by checking your cameras settings and adjusting them to take a higher resolution picture can make a big difference- although they do take up a little more memory space and time to upload. Another good practice is to be as close to your subject as possible before zooming in. By zooming in, what would be tiny little pixels become larger and larger, and your picture begins to lose that sharp and perfect look. It's also good to remember that just because your eyes can see through the shadows, your camera uses light differently and shadows are enhanced. Taking a picture facing the sun will produce a silhouette, but if you have your back to the sun you will get a great and colorful shot. Making sure you have the right angle and lighting can change a picture from looking amateur to professional. The most important thing to remember and do is to simply play with your camera and features. Get to know it. There are usually many filters or adjustments you can make before taking a picture or after, and the better you know how your camera works the better pictures you'll take.
